CHRISTINE PARK GALLERY is pleased to announce its second consecutive participation in Untitled Art, Miami Beach 2024. This year, the gallery proudly presents a dual showcase of works by Xyza Cruz Bacani, an award-winning documentary photographer, and Noemi Conan, a London-based Polish artist. Each artist brings a compelling narrative exploring resilience, cultural identity, and memory, aligning with the Gallery’s mission to present distinctive voices that engage with themes both universal and deeply personal.
Xyza Cruz Bacani: Exploring Migration, Labor, and Community Through Photography
Xyza Cruz Bacani’s work as a documentary photographer draws deeply from her own lived experiences and those of migrant communities worldwide. A daughter of a migrant worker, Bacani’s work sheds light on powerful stories that are often marginalized, using her camera as a tool for advocacy and visibility.
Among the works presented at Untitled Art, Miami Beach 2024 is her renowned black-and-white series We Are Like Air, which intimately documents migrant worker families, including her mother’s life as a domestic worker. This series, which also became the cover image of Bacani's acclaimed book, offers a powerful meditation on themes of family, migration, and belonging. Additionally, Bacani’s presentation includes Dancers, an evocative portrayal of the Filipino community in Hong Kong during their days of rest, and two works from Project Ugnayan, a collection created during the pandemic to capture resilience and hope in the face of adversity. Bacani’s work provides a poignant commentary on community, labor, and the human spirit, encouraging viewers to recognize the space for diverse narratives within institutional, public, and private art collections.
Noemi Conan: Nostalgia and Modern Identity in Eastern European Memory
Polish-born artist Noemi Conan explores her Eastern European heritage through her series The Rite of Spring, a body of work that delves into memory, nostalgia, and cultural transformation. Raised in rural Poland during the socio-economic shifts of the 1990s, Conan’s work reflects the complexity of cultural identity amidst change. Her paintings, often depicting female figures, symbolic animals, and twilight landscapes, use acrylics and neon lighting to evoke the emotional depth and aesthetic richness of post-Impressionist, Symbolist, and Expressionist movements.
Highlights include Kogel-Mogel and Destroying Angels, works that contemplate the interaction between nostalgia and modernity. By examining the enduring impact of Eastern European folklore in contemporary life, Conan creates a dialogue that resonates with Untitled Art, Miami Beach 2024’s curatorial theme of “East Meets West,” offering an insightful exploration of identity, heritage, and resilience.
We warmly invite collectors, curators, and art enthusiasts to explore this powerful dual presentation by Xyza Cruz Bacani and Noemi Conan at Untitled Art, Miami Beach 2024. Their works offer an insightful engagement with cultural memory, resilience, and identity, embodying a cross-cultural dialogue that is both timely and timeless.
